Simon-Kucher has been recognised among the top 20% of companies worldwide that made significant progress in ensuring business travel is more sustainable.
The global consulting firm received a B rating for its commitment to sustainable travel, including shifting away from air travel, a major source of emissions. In a ranking of the most sustainable travelers, Simon-Kucher was also judged one of only two German companies that had clear emissions reduction goals.
That is according this year’s edition of an annual ranking from the global campaign Travel Smart, led by Transport & Environment, Europe’s leading non-profit for cleaner transport.
The ranking ranks over 300 global companies with a rating from A to D, analyzing their efforts to reduce corporate air travel emissions.
“Simon-Kucher is constantly making efforts to ensure that we are on right path to reducing travel emissions,” said Anne Rupp, Global Head of ESG at Simon-Kucher.
“Our commitment to disclose and cut travel emissions, plus our SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) commitment, demonstrates our dedication to climate action. We strongly believe that the shift from air to rail travel and investment in new technologies are the key to reduce emissions.”
Rupp also emphasized the significance of business travel in the consulting industry and the need to balance client service with environmental impact. The firm has been a leader in proactively shifting from air to rail travel.
In 2021, the firm sent the guideline to all its staff worldwide, stating employees had to use the train instead of plane for trips below a certain amount of hours or kilometres, among other policies.
